Sara J. Kohls, ESQ

Sara was born and raised in Acton, and grew up vacationing in Chatham.  She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society.  After undergrad, Sara spent two years working at a law firm as a litigation assistant.  She attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated cum laude in 2013.  At Case Western, Sara was elected the Executive Articles Editor & Symposium Coordinator of the Journal of Law, Technology & the Internet.  Her Note, Searching the Cloud, was published in the Fall 2012 edition of the Journal.

During law school, Sara was a judicial extern for a Federal Judicial Magistrate at the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio.  She interned at the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office in Elyria, Ohio and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston, Massachusetts. During school, she participated in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic as a certified legal intern, where she represented indigent defendants through all phases of criminal litigation.

After graduating law school, Sara served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts, and was assigned to assist the Justices in both Plymouth and Barnstable Counties.  Sara joined the Law Offices of Bruce A. Bierhans, LLC, in 2018 as a litigation and business associate in 2018.  Sara handles all types of civil litigation, and has specific experience in landlord/tenant matter, condominium and homeowner’s association cases, probate litigation, and criminal defense.  She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.

Sara was named a “40 under 40” winner in 2017 by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine. She is the co-founder and past president of the Barnstable County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division.  Sara is the Vice President of the board of directors of Cape Cod Young Professionals.  She has served in leadership roles in the CCYP Events Committee and the Shape Your Cape Summit Committee.  She chaired the 2018 CCYP Shape Your Cape Summit, which brought over 250 of the Cape’s young professionals together for a day of learning how to enhance their lives professionally, personally, and philanthropically on the Cape.  She is a graduate of the 2017 Class of the Community Leadership Institute (CLI) of Cape Cod.  An avid animal lover, she also does extensive volunteer work for the MSPCA Cape Cod, including chairing the 2018 Polar Bear Plunge, which raised over $30,000 for the local homeless animal population.
