It goes like this: Get a borrower into a “teaser” loan that will ultimately morph into a much higher interest rate loan. If you’re lucky, maybe the borrower will have to refinance once or twice before they go broke, generating additional fees for the lenders. Then, foreclose on the home, kick out the borrowers, and sell the home at a foreclosure sale. You’ve successfully made a ton of dough while ruining the lives of your borrowers.
I find this get rich scheme on the part of lenders to be offensive and our firm has taken a lead in representing borrowers both on Cape Cod and in the greater Boston area. We have already successfully obtained Injunctive relief in one case in which we were able to prevent an interest rate rise in a teaser rate loan and also prevent a foreclosure by the lender pending conclusion of the case.
